As a photographer for the live theater community, I can assure you it is not a get-rich-quick scheme. Same thing with shooting weddings and the like. And pro bono, by its very nature, means I'm giving, not getting (other than huge doses of emotional satisfaction).
Although I do not actively solicit from area businesses, occasionally my services are called upon and I'm glad to oblige. Especially because I need to upgrade my camera gear from time to time. And lordy, that's not cheap!

Meijer Gardens and & Sculpture Park is quite simply a dream assignment for a photographer.

OLLI / Aquinas College
The folks at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) asked me to photograph their learning center during each of the four seasons. Two down, two to go.
